South Cotton Fabric

South cotton at TradeUNO — South Indian cotton in plain weave at 44 inches (1.12 m), from around Rs. 380 a metre.

South cotton is a medium-weight handloom-style cotton woven in the southern states, usually in yarn-dyed checks, stripes and temple borders rather than prints. It has more body than mulmul and a drier handle than mill cotton, and the colour is woven in rather than printed on, so it does not fade off the surface.

It softens with washing and is the standard everyday saree and kurta cotton across South India. Expect some shrinkage on the first wash.
