Knit Fabric

Knits stretch because of how the loops are built, not because of an added fibre — which is why a knit moves with the body and recovers without elastane. They also do not fray at the cut edge, so seams need less finishing than a woven.

The trade-offs: knits curl at the edges while you sew, and they need a ballpoint needle and a stretch stitch or the seam will snap under wear. Check whether the stretch runs one way or both before laying out a pattern.
