Oxford is a basket weave: two or more fine warp threads run against one heavier weft, giving a slightly textured, basket-like surface and a cloth noticeably more durable than plain poplin of the same weight. It is the classic button-down shirting for exactly that reason — it survives daily wear and repeated laundering.
